Tan Son Nhat Airport to Launch Terminal T3 on April 30, 2025
Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) is set to open its highly anticipated Terminal T3 on April 30, 2025, marking a major advancement in Vietnam’s aviation infrastructure. The launch coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, a significant national event.
This expansion aims to ease congestion at Vietnam’s busiest airport and improve domestic flight capacity. According to the Ministry of Transport (MT) and Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), the new terminal represents an investment of VND 11 trillion (USD 431.2 million), further strengthening Vietnam’s fast-growing aviation sector.

What to Expect at Tan Son Nhat’s Terminal T3
Terminal T3 is designed to accommodate 20 million passengers annually, significantly reducing overcrowding at Tan Son Nhat Airport. The new facility will include:
- A state-of-the-art passenger terminal with modern amenities.
- A multi-level parking structure integrated with commercial services.
- An elevated road system to improve traffic flow at the terminal’s entrance.
- Expanded aircraft aprons, allowing for increased flight operations.
Before its official opening, trial operations will take place to test systems, train staff, and ensure smooth passenger services. This phased rollout follows the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) guidelines for infrastructure improvements.
Which Airlines Will Operate at Terminal T3?
According to Tan Son Nhat Airport’s operational plan:
- Vietnam Airlines (national carrier) and Vietjet Air (budget airline) will be the first to transition to Terminal T3.
- Other domestic airlines, including Vasco, Bamboo Airways, Vietravel Airlines, and Pacific Airlines, will continue to operate from Terminal T1 for now.
- To minimize disruptions, Terminal T3’s official operations will begin after the April 30 – May 1 holiday period, ensuring a smooth transition for passengers. The airport has also launched a communication campaign to update travelers on new check-in procedures and boarding locations.
Addressing Vietnam’s Growing Air Travel Demand
With Vietnam’s air passenger traffic increasing yearly, the CAAV has prioritized airport expansion projects to support tourism and economic growth. Originally designed to handle 25 million passengers per year, Tan Son Nhat Airport now serves nearly 40 million annually, leading to frequent overcrowding.
The opening of Terminal T3 is expected to:
- Improve passenger flow and reduce waiting times.
- Enhance Vietnam’s domestic flight network to meet increasing demand.
- Boost tourism and business connectivity between major cities.
- The Vietnamese government recognizes aviation infrastructure as a key driver of economic development. Alongside Tan Son Nhat’s Terminal T3, other major projects—such as Long Thanh International Airport, set to become Vietnam’s largest aviation hub—are in progress.
