Why Vietnam is Among the Fastest-Growing Destinations for Australians

Australians are traveling abroad in record numbers, with Vietnam emerging as one of the top three fastest-growing destinations, according to a report by Singapore-based Asian Aviation.  The report, referencing the Australian Travel Industry Association (ATIA)'s December Travel Trends, revealed that October saw 1.66 million Australians embarking on international trips—a 12.1% rise compared to the same period last year. Japan led the growth, with a staggering 73.8% year-on-year increase, attracting 567,330 Australian visitors by late October. Vietnam followed with a 35.4% increase, welcoming 423,630 travelers, while Indonesia saw a 26% rise, hosting 1,644,010 visitors. ATIA’s Director of Membership and Industry Affairs, Richard Taylor, noted the unprecedented growth in destinations like Japan, Vietnam, and Indonesia, driven primarily by leisure tourism. According to the report, holidays account for 63.6% of all Australian international travel, reflecting a shift in traveler preferences toward experiences in culturally rich and diverse destinations.
