How Indian Citizens Can Easily Travel to Vietnam
Vietnam has rapidly become a prime destination for Indian billionaires seeking luxurious wedding venues, as well as a top choice for large groups of Indian tourists, creating significant opportunities for local tourism businesses. Recently, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited, a leading Indian pharmaceutical company founded by billionaire Dilip Shanghvi, arranged a massive tour to Vietnam for approximately 4,500 of its employees. The tour, covering northern destinations like Hanoi, Ninh Binh Province, and Ha Long Bay, will take place from August 27 to September 3. This group will be the largest-ever Indian delegation to visit Vietnam, and with that comes a growing demand for information on the Vietnam visa for India.
High Spending, High Expectations
Tourist destinations and five-star hotels in Vietnam have spent weeks preparing to host this massive delegation. Vietravel, a prominent travel company in Ho Chi Minh City, has tailored its services to meet the group’s unique requirements, including strict food restrictions. At the Melia Hanoi, part of the group will be staying, with menus customized to Indian tastes, particularly vegetarian, non-egg, and Jain dietary needs. The Jain diet, followed by Jainism adherents, excludes all animal-derived products and root vegetables. Meanwhile, around 300 employees of the delegation will stay at the Movenpick Living West Hanoi, which will offer a mix of Indian and traditional Hanoian cuisine.

A Surge in Indian Tourism to Vietnam
Vietnam's growing popularity among Indian tourists, many of whom need to understand the Vietnam visa for India process, reflects its rising appeal. Direct air routes between India and Vietnam, reducing travel times to under five hours, play a crucial role in this trend.
As Vietravel's marketing director, Nguyen Nguyet Van Khanh, pointed out, the success of their “Vietnam – A Splendid Destination” campaign has brought a shift in Indian travelers' preferences from Bangkok to Vietnam. The scenic landscapes of Ha Long Bay and Ninh Binh are particularly alluring, making Vietnam a strong alternative to Thailand. In 2023, over 392,000 Indian tourists visited Vietnam, a staggering 231 percent increase compared to 2019. In the first half of 2024 alone, Vietnam received 231,000 Indian arrivals, up 164 percent year-on-year.
Localities Embrace Indian Visitors
To further capitalize on this booming market, local destinations like Ninh Binh are promoting their offerings to Indian tourists. Ninh Binh, where the Sun Pharmaceuticals delegation will visit the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, sees India as a key market, contributing 15 percent of its total international visitors.
Tourism experts are keen to ensure that Indian tourists' preferences are understood and respected. For example, Novotel Hanoi Thai Ha sent a team to India to collaborate with local agents and immerse themselves in Indian culinary traditions, highlighting the importance of catering to tourists’ dietary needs while understanding the specifics of the Vietnam visa for India application process.
Looking Forward: Visa Opportunities and More
Vietnam’s welcoming approach to Indian tourists is paying off, and more opportunities lie ahead. Dr. Le Thi Hang Nga from the Institute for South Asian and African Studies emphasized the importance of continuing to promote Vietnam as an attractive wedding destination for high-net-worth Indians. At the same time, Hoang Nhan Chinh, Secretariat Director of the Vietnam Tourism Advisory Board, stressed the need for further research into Indian tourists' preferences and the continual adjustment of visa policies to accommodate the growing demand for the Vietnam visa for India.
By maintaining safe, high-quality services and improving tourism infrastructure, Vietnam can expect to further boost its appeal to Indian tourists while solidifying its place as a top travel destination.
